DUPR explained: a beginner's guide for Queensland players

DUPR is the rating most Australian clubs, leagues and tournaments use. This page covers what the number means, how it moves, and how to get one. Every fact links to its official source.

Facts checked 23 Oct 2026 against dupr.com, the DUPR help centre, Pickleball Australia and the NPL. Next re-check is due within 60 days.

TL;DR

  1. DUPR = Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating: one number for your level. Source
  2. Ratings run from 2.000 to 8.000, and new players start as "NR" (Not Rated). Source
  3. It's free. You don't need DUPR+ to get a rating. Source
  4. One match is enough to get a rating, and 10–20 make it more accurate. Source
  5. It's not about winning: if you beat the expected score, your rating rises even in a loss. Source
  6. Self-posted matches only count once every player has validated them. Club and tournament results count more. Source, source
  7. Pickleball Australia uses DUPR as its official rating system. Source

What is DUPR?

DUPR stands for Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating, a rating of your pickleball skill level (DUPR). It adjusts with each game played rather than staying fixed (DUPR Help).

How your rating moves

Reliability Score

A percentage from 1 to 100 showing how dependable your rating is, with separate scores for singles and doubles. It doesn't change your rating directly, and it updates every Tuesday (DUPR Help). A score of at least 60% counts as reliable (DUPR).

How to get a rating

  1. Create or claim an account. Your matches might already be in the system (DUPR).
  2. Get matches recorded. You can self-post them (on the web, use "New Match"; in the app, tap the first icon at the top right, then "Match") (DUPR Help). You can also play in events whose organisers submit results directly (DUPR).
  3. Validation. Every player except the uploader has to validate the match. If anyone denies it, it's removed. Until then, it shows as "Pending Validation" (DUPR Help).
  4. Other routes: a DUPR Coach rating or an AI video rating (dupr.com).

DUPR FAQ

I won but my rating dropped. Why?

Your DUPR moves on performance against the expected score, not on whether you won. Source

Why isn't my match showing?

It may still be Pending Validation. Every other player has to confirm it, and if one player denies it, it's removed. Source

When does my Reliability Score update?

Reliability Scores update weekly, on Tuesdays. Source

What does NR mean?

Not Rated. New players start as NR. Source

Why is my rating jumping around?

With few or older matches, your rating may shift more as the system learns. Source

Does my reliability drop if I stop playing?

Yes. It begins to decrease after an extended period with no matches played. Source

Do I have different singles and doubles ratings?

Yes. Singles, gender doubles and mixed doubles are separate ratings. Source

Do I have to pay for DUPR?

No. Your core DUPR rating is available with a free MyDUPR account. Source
